What is On Page SEO?

On Page SEO is a form of search engine optimization that gets performed on your website. All of the on page SEO techniques listed below are done on-site while other tasks such as obtaining backlinks are considered off-page because nothing is done on your website.

1. Keyword Study

First of all, prepare a good study of keywords. It is the main thing and, perhaps for that reason, the most complicated. It will be the basis of the rest of the actions that you carry out on your site and, like any base, if this is not right, the rest certainly will not either. But do not be afraid, following a good strategy can develop a keyword study that makes your SEO OnPage a success.

Define the objectives of your website, your target audience, etc. You have to be very clear about the basics of your page in order to start your keyword study. What do you want to get?

Think how would you like to position yourself in the search engines. That is, before what searches you would like your page to appear. Think that SEO is not only getting good positions in search engines, it is also part of your brand image and a very important part (is what you see of your page in Google, for example). Keywords are probably considered to be the biggest on page SEO factors without a doubt. Without good keywords; your content is wasted in terms of ranking organically.

Search the keywords that are best suited to your site. We recommend that you have a minimum of monthly searches (neither many nor a few, a medium-term to be a specific but repeated search) and the least possible competition. If other pages are already positioned by those keywords, it will be more difficult for you to get a space there.

Once we have our keyword study fresh out of the oven, we can start preparing the rest of the things for your initial on page SEO. The first thing is to prepare some good meta tags.

It is very important that all pages have their title and its description with your corresponding keyword. Thoroughly review the entire site and do not leave any out there without completing.

3. Optimize Your Content

Now it’s time to take the content for your website, which you have probably already done, and refocus them on your chosen keywords. That is, you have to put the keyword of each page in their corresponding texts.
This is basically what SEO writing is, and your content needs to be properly optimized in order to rank.

Explained briefly, search engine spiders read your texts in a way similar to any human being, so the first paragraph is more important than the second and so on. This also applies to the titles: the h1 (heading/main title of the page) is the most important, the h2 goes after, h3, h4, h5, and h6.

4. URLs

Take advantage if your site is new and that your URLs have never been on the Internet before. Draw a good URL structure and keep it very clear before doing so. If you do it wrong the solution will be to have a lot of URL redirects which can be bad for SEO. A good structure would be, for example: www.example.com/word-word. Try not to be too long and always include the keyword. And, of course, be friendly! No incomprehensible, infinite or dynamic URLs (if you can avoid it).

5. Internal Links 

Try to put internal links between your pages for your site. This is recommended both for usability, to facilitate the user who can access all the pages and reach those that are related to what you are reading, as well as SEO. The idea is to transmit a bit of “SEO Juice” that reaches the most important pages to the rest. Internal links are very simple and would be part of any on page SEO tutorial. In short, they are links between different pages on your website, especially ones that are related to each other.

6. Robots.txt and Sitemap

These are essential so that Google (and the rest of the search engines) begins to track our site. With the Robots we indicate which pages we want to index and which ones we want to “block” for SEO purposes. With the Sitemap, we give you a map of our URLs (this is why step 4 is so important). Again, we’re not going to explain in depth how to create a Robots and a Sitemap, we just want you to know that they exist and that they have to be prepared before launching your site to the world.

It is also important that you decide which pages you want Google to index. It is obvious that your main page and the sections have to appear in Google, but what about the contact section where you just put your number and your mail? And the legal warning page? Go through your site thoroughly and tell your webmaster which pages you want to hide from the search engines before it’s too late.

So, this is the essence of on page SEO techniques. As you will see it requires an effort, but you will see how the reward arrives very soon and you do not take long to see results. Doing things right from the beginning is much easier than it seems while trying to solve what has been done wrong is not so easy. We have seen more than one headache for not following these steps before launching a new site.
